Police Inspector General, Usman Alkali Baba, is making a case for the return of the notorious Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) by arguing that its disbandment created a vacuum in fight against insecurity.
The IGP made the claim at the weekly Ministerial briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said: “With the proscription of SARS and establishment of SWAT, which has not been able to take off fully, we had a vacuum in tackling most of the violent crimes from our position of strength.”
Alkali said the morale of the personnel of the force had remained dampened with the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest and the recent attacks in the Southeast.
