IBB varsity confers honorary degrees on Tinubu, Kure, Zukogi

The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Niger State, Prof. Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare, has conferred a post humus honorary degree of Doctor of Science Sc.D (Honoris Causa) on the late Engr Abdulkadir Kure, the former Governor of the state.

Others awarded honorary degree are the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He got honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) as well as Justice Maria Sanda Zukogi, who was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Law (LLD) (Honoris Causa).

The VC, Prof. Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, said that in the third combined convocation of the IBBUL a total of 3,212 students of 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 sessions graduated.

The out going VC also explained that the 23 graduands made first class, 700 with second class upper, 1,999 with second class lower, 470 in 3rd class category and 29 graduands with a pass.

The overall best graduating student for 2017/2018 session is Yansahwu Adio of French Department with a CGPA of 4.77 and Maryam Gomina of Physics Department is the overall best graduating student for 2018/2019 session with a CGPA of 4.73.

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, who spoke through former Minister of Finance, Abubakar Muye and former military Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, also represented by Engr Inuwa Kuta, both congratulated the graduands and awardees.

Responding on behalf of recipients,  former Governor Ahmed Tinubu and National Chieftain of the All Progressives Party, APC, thanked the management for the honour given not only to him, but other awardees.

Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu emirate of Niger State said, “I feel honoured, privileged and humbled for being chosen. I am touched by the patriotism due to contribution to national development and human welfare that has impacted the younger generation.”

He urged all universities in the country to embrace technology, which is the trend of the 21st century.

Hajiya Zanab Abdulkadir Kure, wife of the late Kure received his award in Posthumous on his behalf.

Late Kure  was the third civilian elected governor of Niger State between 1999 to 2008. He was conferred with honourary degree due to his contributions to the education sector.

Present at the event include; Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, former Minister of Sports, Sani Ndanusa, and traditional rulers.
