I was wrong for suggesting negotiation with Boko Haram during Chibok abduction, says El-Rufai

Governor El-Rufai

Caught pants down, Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir-El-Rufai, has admitted that he was wrong for proposing negotiating the release of the Chibok girls with Boko Haram.

A video of 2014 posted by Sahara Reporters showed El-Rufai railing at ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for refusing to negotiate the release of the Chibok girls. He said in the video that if one of the girls was Jonathan’s daughter, or from powerful families, they would have been released through negotiations.

But since he is now confronted with the same situation of either negotiating the release of the students of the College of Forestry and the Greenfield University who were abducted, or tow the same path as Jonathan by refusing to negotiate, he opted not to negotiate.

But after being dragged for being a flippant critic, El-Rufai explained: “It is prudent to review one’s position when the facts change. A path proposed in 2014 cannot be taken as the immutable answer to a serious problem which has since evolved. Negotiations have not stopped the criminals. We seek to solve today’s problem with tools fit for them”
