I was on Rick Ross’s show because I’m the only worthy rapper, CDQ replies MI, YCee

Nigerian rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, better known as CDQ, has carpeted his colleagues MI Abaga and YCEE, for berating the organisers of Rick Ross’ Easter concert after they left out Nigerian rappers.

The two prominent rappers had vented their anger over what they termed as discrimination against Nigerian rappers on the microblogging platform. Twitter.

YCee took to social media to call out the promoters of the show for organising an event involving a veteran American rapper without any Nigerian rapper.

He also claimed such a move accounts for why some rappers in the country are switching from rap music to other genres.

He wrote, “Bruh this ain’t even about me cos I haven’t put out rap music in a while but how do you have a Rick Ross show in Nigeria and not have ONE SINGLE NIGERIAN RAPPER ON THE LINE UP??? And tomorrow you wanna come on Twitter and ask why rappers are switching genres,”

MI on his part said he opted to see Rick Ross face to face, but the organisers declined and concluded that such disrespect will continue until the rappers come together and become formidable.

“My first big gig ever was in 2008 with Jay Z and Rihanna and Usher.. how I was treated that day taught me a valuable lesson.. them no go respect us.. until we respect ourselves.

“Let’s support each other. I just posted a Paybac verse.. let’s see how many other rappers will repost.. push the culture and inevitably push yourself.. give the fans quality.” MI said.

Reacting to the criticism by MI Abaga and YCee, CDQ, in a post on his Twitter said most Nigerian rappers get invitations, but rather than perform, they will start making unnecessary demands.

He went on to say getting a deal to perform at an event is sometimes a game of chance and that he was invited to the event directly from America because they knew his worth.

CDQ wrote: “I’m sure most of us would get invitations to the event but would rather be asking for something else. And FYI I was invited to the event by Belaire directly from America and I’m sure they must have checked my catalog from 2013 till date cos I never asked for it.

“So just know when God’s grace wants to locate u e no dey look whether u be iBiLe rapper or english rappest… So they invited the only Rapper they feel it’s worth it and that’s CDQ. Woss Alexa play me “Oobi by CDQ”.
