Presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP) in the 2015 general election, Martins Onovo, has said that he cautioned Nigerians against voting President Muhammadu Buhari because his antecedents both in speech and action showed he would pose serious danger to the nation’s unity.
Onovo, a trained petroleum engineer, said that he was not surprised that Buhari was running a very deceitful government, while urging Nigerians to vote him out in the 2019 Presidential election.
He said, “Each time that I speak against President Buhari it is not a matter of hatred but because I know that his government cannot fix Nigeria. I said it before that Buhari’s government will present the greatest danger to confront Nigeria and we are just witnessing it today.
“You can see that today the economy is ruined, the state of insecurity has worsened; there is lip-service to the fixing of infrastructure and Nigeria is deeply divided today than ever. As we speak latest world poverty report shows that Nigeria has overtaken India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty.
“Today India is witnessing a decline in its level of extreme poverty. Going by the report, extreme poverty in Nigeria is growing by six people every minute, maybe the highest number in the world. So what is the import of all the noise of achievements that the government is making?
“This government by all standards is a failure unless we want to be stingy with the truth. Nigerians are dying instalmentally each passing day. The beauty of democracy is that it is self-correcting. The All Progressives Congress (APC) under Buhari as a government has not shown it is an option or alternative for Nigerians”.
It would be recalled that Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, on Tuesday asked Nigerians to vote out 2019 to avoid the imminent collapse of the country.
It said that Buhari was facing a conflict of interests as Nigeria’s president as well as Grand Patron of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
