Temi DollFace has told TheNiche that her ultimate goal as an artiste is to change the way music is experienced in Nigeria.
Speaking in Lagos recently, the music act said her aim is: “To shatter pop stereotypes by proving that pop music can be alternative, experimental and exciting. Also, I want to give back what I get out of music. I realise that what I get to do is such a privilege, as with music we have the ability to touch other human beings who are reaching out looking for the same things most of us are,” she said.
Temi DollFaceAfter her performance at the recent One Mic Naija event during Social Media Week, Temi DollFace has continued her bar-raising performance. She commands the stage with a presence and sense of musicianship that’s rare and refreshing.
She also speaks on her unique nature as typified by her music and fashion.
But who really is Temi DollFace? She is a singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and all-round creative individual on a one-woman mission to resurrect real music.
“As things are, I don’t focus on any particular genre of music. I consider myself to be a multi-genre artiste, as I have a wide spectrum of influences that I like to express. I just put them all under the ‘Drama Soul’ umbrella, as my music at its core is soulful with theatrical elements,” she explained.
“Earlier in my journey, I was pushed by management and my label to do more R&B-driven music. That didn’t last very long. I love R&B, but I have so much more I want to express, said the lady whose real name is Temitope Phil-Ebosie.”
Dollface, who said she has always felt an irresistible pull towards music for as long as she could remember, explained that her heart has always belonged to fashion as well.
Have you always been interested in music? What would you have done otherwise?
“I consider myself to be 50 per cent music and 50 per cent fashion. So without a doubt, I would be working full-time in the fashion industry in some capacity if I wasn’t doing music. Either that or in theatre doing costume and set design,” she declared.
Since the release of the creative video to her hit song, ‘Pata Pata’ she has been doing many shows around Lagos.
So what inspires her creativity?
“Everything from living to art to something someone just said, a love of words, anything from a by-gone era and the tension created when one mixes unlikely styles. When I’m creating, I only need that one trigger for an idea, one small fragment, all the rest I can invent myself,” she said.
