Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, Frank Nweke Jnr., has denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
In a statement by his Media Campaign Manager, Innocent Dikin, on Friday, the candidate said he never in any interview endorsed Tinubu nor could have been misconstrued as such.
Nweke said, “Our attention has been drawn to two news items concocted from the imagination of mischievous individuals and published on AnchorNews and TrendOnline platforms.
‘While our stance remains to focus on the issues that affect Enugu people, we find it necessary to address these wrong assertions.
“I did not endorse or support Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.”
The statement noted that TrendOnline’s report by a supposed Godwin Eze of Frank Nweke Jnr’s endorsement of Bola Tinubu was completely false and mischievous.
“The accusatory and dismal piece by Innocent Chukwu on Anchor News is libellous, inane and completely untrue.
“Our lawyers will be in touch with both organisations forthwith to seek redress.
“We remain focused on our goals and will not be distracted by propaganda. We also encourage all our supporters to do the same,” Nweke added.
TheNiche got hold of a voice recording of Nweke’s speech at a lecture held by the Faculty of Arts, University Of Nigeria, Nsukka on January 19, 2023, which stressed his lack of support for Tinubu.
In the recording, Nweke knocked Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar for disrespecting the Igbo in their quest for the top job. He said, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu completely ignored the East during the pre-primary consultations. On arrival in Enugu for the presidential rally last week, his words betrayed his acrimony for the Igbo: ‘Nobody will give you any credit. You are working hard, you are sweating. Now we want you to sweat well now for this party until you deliver victory. Until Bola Tinubu became the president of Nigeria we will not give you but a soaked slice of bread.’”
