‘I killed, buried my brother to save treatment cost’

Ibrahim Idris, IGP

For his inability to raise money for his sick brother’s hospital treatment, a 40-year-old man, Raphael Izuchukwu, has allegedly killed and buried the brother.

The police quoted the suspect as saying he committed the crime because he no longer had money for his brother’s hospital treatement.

Izuchukwu from Ugwuagbo Inyi village in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State had on that fateful day killed his elder brother, Chizoba Ogbonna (about 46), and went ahead to bury him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this in a statement he made available to journalists in Enugu yesterday.

The incident was said to have thrown the sleepy village of Inyi into a state of shock and sorrow.

Amaraizu said the dastardly act took place on August 3.

The PPRO said that a full-scale investigation had commenced as the suspect was now helping the police operatives in their investigation.

He said: “Revelation from suspect had it that he actually killed his brother on that 3/8/18 and buried him in the early hours of the said date.

“On why he killed and buried his brother, the suspect further revealed that the brother has been sick and that he can no longer bear the cost of his treatment and as a result, he killed and buried him.
“But through intelligence information, the police operatives apprehended him.”
