Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has said he does not know the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held by the government on terrorism charges.

Fagbemi stated this during the Ministerial Sectoral Updates, a media event organised to mark the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu in office.

The minister was asked by reporters why the likes of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore; and Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were released while Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Fagbemi said their cases are distinct, adding that Kanu is being held lawfully.

He called on Nigerians to wait for the court’s decision, assuring that no one would be held unlawfully while he is minister of justice.

“Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore’s case are not the same. If I see Sowore, I don’t know him, if I see Nnamdi Kanu, I don’t know him.

“So, Nnamdi Kanu is being held under the rule of law and the court.

“Let’s wait for the decision of the court. No one will be held outside the laws of the country,” he said.
