The Bauchi State Police command has has recovered a counterfeit currency worth N6 million from a suspected criminal in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Garba Baba Umar, disclosed that one Rilwanu Ibrahim, 29, of ‘Iyale road in Kogi State, was arrested by the police operatives attached to its division in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on March 24, 2017, following a tip-off.
He said that the suspect was arrested with 60 bunches of N1, 000 notes amounting to N6 million suspected to be counterfeit, adding that the owner had confessed to have paid N300, 000 to a printer to produce the said fake currencies.
According to him, “The suspect is assisting the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of his accomplices after which they would be charged to court for prosecution”.
In a related development, the police commissioner said that his personnel had also arrested a suspected syndicate behind the assassination of a social media activist known as Abdulhakim Bauchin Bauchi who was gruesomely slaughtered at ‘Gwallameji area of Bauchi State on March 17, 2017.
”However, discreet investigation by the police detectives attached to anti-kidnapping unit of the command led to the arrest of the following syndicate who allegedly perpetrated the dastardly act. They are; Michael Sansai, Samuel Uzima and William Yakubu”.
The Police chief further stated that several exhibits were recovered from the suspected assassins that included one black Nokia 225 handset belonging to the deceased, sim card, torn clothes of the deceased and Indian hemp.
He said that the suspects were currently being interrogated after which they would be arraigned.
