Detectives attached to Ejigbo Divisional Police Headquarters have arrested a suspected armed robber cum notorious cultist, Segun Kazeem (21) aka Water.
Kazeem, also known as ‘No Case,’ was arrested by a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, popularly called ‘Iron Lady,’ upon information from members of the community.
The suspect was arrested alongside some members of his gang said to have been terrorising the entire Ejigbo community. Kazeem was arrested on Thursday on the premises of a primary school at Ejigbo where residents were queuing up for their PVC.
Sources said that the suspect belonged to one of the most dangerous cult groups known as the ‘Birds’.
It was learnt that the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, had placed the suspect on wanted list. The suspect was said to have commanded notorious robbers, who specialise in robbing innocent people of their hard earned money and property.
Sources said that if a victim refused to surrender his belongings to Kazeem, he would kill the person and cut his head for ritual purposes.
The suspect, who lives in Lafenwa area of Ejigbo, confessed to have been responsible for most of the successful robbery operations in the area. He also confessed to have murdered a businesswoman at Ori Oke Bridge who had just returned from her overseas trip.
Kazeem robbed the woman of her valuables, cash and gold trinkets including several foreign currencies running into millions of dollars and pounds. During a search on the house of the suspect, the police recovered arms and ammunition such as several rounds of bullets, six locally-made cut-to-size pistols, pump action guns and several pots of charms for his protection.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, said that the police apprehended the suspect and they were still investigating on the case.
