Despite the 2-1 loss in the Manchester Derby, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is enjoying his time as Red Devils’ boss.
It’s a busy if not chaotic start to his reign, with the summer recruitment drive hauling in Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan among others.
Mourinho says it was particularly difficult to woo Pogba, who was being pursued by another club (Cough, Real Madrid, cough).
Here’s what he said from an interview with Goal.com: “Oh! It was hard to convince him,” Mourinho told Goal. “I had many [conversations] on the phone, lots of SMS. I think he was getting one in the morning from the manager from another big club and one in the afternoon from myself. I had to try hard to convince him to choose us instead of the other one.”
Mourinho also dropped this nugget on the Champions League without United: “”The Champions League without Manchester United is not the Champions League and Manchester United without the Champions League is not Manchester United. So this is the first big step.”
