At least five people were killed and some others abducted on Sunday by armed bandits along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, confirmed the attack.
While stating that four bodies had been recovered so far from the scene of the incident, the police chief assured residents that the force was on the trail of the bandits.
A resident and witness of the incident said that the attack occurred around 6:00pm near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri communities, along the expressway.
The resident who pleaded anonymity explained that passengers were returning from Kaduna to Abuja in different vehicles, when they stumbled on the bandits who mounted a road block, stopped motorists and started shooting sporadically.
The latest attack comes a week after security operatives conducted search operations for arms at Kuriga village.
In 2017, the Kaduna-Abuja highway witnessed series of attacks by armed bandits with many abducted and lives lost in the process.
Although, the road became relatively peaceful since this year, the resurgence of Sunday’s attack by gunmen, has raised fresh fear among residents.
