A group, suspected to be hoodlums have raided the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), injuring about 14 operatives.
The attack on Monday afternoon at Ebute Meta, surprised many onlookers, who mistook the hoodlum to #EndSARS protesters.
The attack was when the operatives were being moved to relieve their colleagues, who had been on duty since Sunday.
Armed with sticks and bottles, the hoodlums in their hundreds barricaded the RRS truck, pelting the operatives with stones.
It was gathered that they overpowered the two armed policemen escorting the truck, descended on the officers, and left them with varying degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, some of the injured hadbeen moved to the Police Clinic Ikeja and others were taken to the General Hospital for medical attention.
Reacting to the attack, Lagos Police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that some of the protesters have exhibited violent traits and disdain for the police, urging them to desist from the needless provocation of operatives.
He lamented that many policemen had been injured in Adekunle area of Yaba, adding that many of those protesting were too aggressive and did not want to see the police around them. He appealed to the protesters to get organised and have a structure so they could easily communicate the reason(s) of the protests to supporters to avoid misrepresentation and anarchy.
