Hoodlums kill two in Rivers State

Hoodlums who unleashed mayhem in Onelga community, in Rivers State, killed at least two people and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

 

 

The people of Rivers State have raised doubts over peaceful polls in the State as reports of violence had made the rounds in the State in the run up to the elections.

 

 

Residents of Onelga were thrown into mourning following the death of one of their own who was shot by suspected hoodlums in what some said was a clash between political parties in the area.

 

 

According to them, the assailants stormed the community shooting randomly, attacked homes and razed one to the ground.

 

 

The situation has caused many to desert the area.

 

 

The Rivers State government said these are dark days for the people especially in the run up to the elections.

 

 

While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the state insisted that the violence is the handiwork of All Progressives Congress (APC) members.

 

 

The State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Mr Ahmad Mohammed, told journalists that the crisis in the State is fueling criminal activities.

 

 

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has paraded over 90 suspected cultists, five robbery gangs and recovered over a hundred arms and ammunition.
