Football Pundit and ex-Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, has told his former club’s new manager, Ruben Amorim that Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Manchester City will expose his midfield tactics when he faces them.

Hagreaves gave the 39-year-old Portuguese tactician the advice while speaking on TNT Sports recently.

L-R: Amorim (Man United), Guardiola (Man City) , Arteta (Arsenal)

Amorim after an initial 1-1 draw against struggling Ipswich Town in a league game, recorded his first win as United boss in his debut game at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

His wards came from behind to see off Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in an Europa League game.

During the European encounter, Manuel Ugarte and captain Bruno Fernandes started in central midfield, with Mason Mount and Garnacho playing off Rasmus Hojlund.

But Hargreaves feels Amorim must change tactics and play a three-man midfield when they face Arsenal in the Premier League next Wednesday.

Speaking on his best midfield formation for Premier League games, he said, “I don’t think he has the personnel that he had at Sporting.

“I think if you’re going to play two in there [midfield], they need to be two super-athletes and cover the distances.

“I’m not sure they have that as such. I think they’ve got some really good players, different players but he might have to tweak it so that maybe one of the No.10s drops in and one of the wing-backs gets a little bit higher for the width.

“But I think playing two in there against an Arsenal or a [Manchester] City, I think that’s going to be really, really difficult.

“I think it’s a work in progress, we need to be patient but we’re getting there.”
