Pundits and ex-Premier League stars, Jamie Carragher and Owen Hargreaves, have reacted to the sending off of Manchester United striker, Marcus Rashford during the Red Devil’s Champions League 4-3 defeat against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

The Three Lions forward was given a straight red card by the referee in the 42nd minute of the encounter after he caught Danish defender, Elias Jelert while trying to protect the ball.

VAR officials after the incident, advised Lithuanian referee, Donatas Rumsas, who had earlier given a yellow card to check the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Rumsas after reviewing the tackle again, reversed his earlier decision and gave Rashford a red card, leaving Manchester United to finish the match with 10 men.

Reacting to the call, former Liverpool defender, Carragher disagreed with the VAR officials, insisting their decision was not the correct verdict.

Taking to his X handle ((formerly Twitter) the former defender wrote:  “No way is that a red card for Rashford! Hate these slow motion replays and still images that make everything look 10 times worse.”

Also speaking on the tackle on TNT Sports, former United midfielder,  Hargreaves backed his former international teammate, Carragher, arguing that Rashford was wrongfully dismissed.

He said: “Not in a million years. He is not even looking at the defender. When you see an image, it looks poor but it is not malicious.”
