Gunmen kill Lagos policeman at stop-and-search point, steal rifles

Gunmen activities have been rising in Lagos recently. This week, they killed three civilians at Gowon Estate in the Ipaja area of the state.

A policeman was killed on Thursday by unknown gunmen at Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, in the Imota, Ikorodu area of Lagos State 

The police office killed is an Assistant Superintendent of Police whose name has not been disclosed by the authorities.

According to reporting by Punch, after perpetrating the crime, the gunmen carted away two rifles, as the deceased policeman’s colleagues scampered to safety.

The attack happened around 7.30pm on Thursday, Punch reported, quoting a source.

“Yesterday (Thursday), armed men attacked some policemen at a point along the Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, Imota, and shot a policeman to death.

“We gathered that the policeman that died was an Assistant Superintendent of Police and the gunmen also stole two rifles. The policemen were on the highway when the gunmen attacked them around 7.30pm.”

Other policemen who escaped from the scene had reported back to the station, but the whereabouts of one of them was still unknown.
