For the second time in less than one week, gunmen again have struck in the ancient town of Benin, the Edo state capital where they killed a senior Pastor of the Christ Chosen Church of God, Oranmiyan branch, Pastor Benson Iyobosa Isibor.

Pastor Iyobosa Isibor was murdered by yet to be identified gunmen, raising serious concerns among popular and perceived wealthy men of God and residents of the Benin metropolis and adjoining towns.

It would be recalled that family members of one Pastor Pius Eromosele of the Church of God Mission Inc had last week discovered the decomposing body of their break winner in the bush after he was hacked to death by suspected herdsmen in his farm at Odighi in Ovia North East local government.

Pastor Pius Eromosele was said to be abducted and killed by suspected herdsmen in his farm.

However, the late Pastor Isibor was said to have been killed on Monday evening at about 7pm while he was returning from work.

New Telegraph gathered that the victim was shot dead at his residence at Oramiyan street in Egor local government area of the state.

Sources close to his house said the killers lurked around the area until the pastor returned from work when they swooped on him.

The cleric was said to have been accosted by the gunmen as he was about to enter his house and had inquired if he was Pastor Isibor when he answered them in the affirmative.

The assailants were said to have shot him three times at closed range and left him in the pool of his blood.

It was further learnt that efforts by the killers to bolt way with the late Pastor’s Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV jeep) failed as the car suddenly rammed into a perimeter fence within the residential building.

Scores of sympathizers and church members yesterday besieged the house amidst wailing when newsmen visited the area

Narrating the family’s ordeal, the eldest daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Rosemary Abu, disclosed that she was also returning from work when she heard three gunshots not knowing that it was her father that was killed.

She said, “The incident happened before 7pm. I was climbing the stairs when I heard the first gunshot. I saw people running for safety. I later heard two other gunshots. I thought armed robbers were in the area. It was my brother that came and told me that my father was on the ground. We met him dead. After they killed him, they took his car but they hit the fence and ran away.”

She explained that, “My father was posted to this branch in 2014. Last two years, he said he received a text message from some persons that they want to kidnap him; he reported the matter to the police.

While describing her late father as her best friend who could confide in her, Mrs. Rosemary said “The killers were waiting for my father. It was not a case of kidnapping. I want his killers to die the way my father was killed.

State Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo, confirmed the killings and said it was a murder case and assured that the police would get to the root of the matter to arrest the killers.
