Guinea-Bissau head coach, Baciro Cande has picked the Super Eagles as one of the favourites to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, despite growing skepticism among Nigerian fans.

The Djurtus lost their final group game 1-0 to Nigeria on Monday night, ending their campaign at the AFCON 2023 finals on a disappointing note.

An own goal from Opa Sangante in the 36th minute gave the Super Eagles maximum points in the keenly contested encounter.

Despite the win, Jose Peseiro’s team have struggled to impress so far in the competition and are yet to convince many that they have what it takes to win a fourth title.

However, speaking about the Super Eagles after the third group game, Cande said he is convinced that they can go all the way in Cote d’Ivoire.

‘”Nigeria have a good team, a lot of quality players including Victor Osimhen who is Africa’s best player,” he said during his interaction with the media after the game.

He added: “It is a team I know very well and I believe they will go far in this competition.

“I believe they can win it. They are now among the favourites.”

Meanwhile, former Nigerian captain, Joseph Yobo has said the Super Eagles are yet to convince him despite beating  Guinea-Bissau 1-0 on Monday night..

Speaking on AfroSport, he said though Nigeria managed to win the encounter and qualify, they will need to improve in the knock out stages as the performance on the night was not good enough.

“It was not a convincing victory even though we got the deserved result we needed. The team still need more cohesion because from the midfield, we are yet to get it right.” Yobo said.
