Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has promised to congratulate Mikel Arteta, should Arsenal emerge the winner of the crucial encounter between the two teams on Wednesday night.

Guardiola made the statement while speaking during the pre-match press conference, where he also said his team will give everything within their power to retain the title they won last season.

The top two teams in the English Premier League meet tonight at the Emirates Stadium with the winner guaranteed the number one spot at the end of the match.

The Gunners are currently three points ahead of City, although Mikel Arteta’s men have played one less fixture.

Speaking before the game, Guardiola said: “If they beat us because they are better then this is sport, I’ll be the first to congratulate them, as I’ve always done.

“But not because we are not there. You want it? OK, fight. Take it. It’s in our hands.

“We’ll defend this title until the last day. This is what I’d like. To fight to the maximum to try to retain the title. If we don’t, accept it, but we need to give our best. My players have to feel that every day,”

Arsenal will extend their lead at the top of the league table to 6 points with a win against the champions, however, if Man City win on Wednesday night, they will leapfrog the league leaders.
