Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has made a case to under-fire Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, insisting the former Brighton handler needs more time to improve the West London club.

Potter suffered a second successive defeat in the hands of the Champions when the Blues were annihilated 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Man City had edged 1-0 past Potter’s men in a Premier League match played at Stamford Bridge four days earlier.

Guardiola was speaking after a 4-0 win over the Blues in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Chelsea have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions and are 10th in the Premier League, sitting 10 points adrift of Champions League places.

They have also been dumped out of both the FA and League Cup, resulting in fans calling for Potter to be sacked.

Speaking after his side’s win Guardiola said: “I’d say to Todd Boehly, give Graham Potter time. Give him time. All the managers need time and he is right. I know at big clubs results are important but give him time.

“What he did at Brighton is outstanding, but all the managers need time he is right.

“In Barcelona, I didn’t need two seasons because I had [Lionel] Messi there.”
