Guardiola hails Ortega, says he stopped Arsenal from winning EPL

Ortega, a second-half substitute for Man City’s first choice goalkeeper, Ederson, pulled off a fine stop to deny Son with the score at 1-0

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has heaped praises on his second choice goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega.

According to the Spanish tactician, the German shoot stopper’s save to deny Son Heung-Min point blank scoring opportunity, stopped Arsenal from becoming Premier League champions after 20 years of waiting.

Ortega, a second-half substitute for Ederson, pulled off a fine stop to deny Son with the score at 1-0.

Erling Haaland had prior to that put Man City in front after fine work from Kevin De Bruyne.

In the closing stages of the match, Haaland scored again from the spot to seal the win for Guardiola’s men.

Asked about the match-defining moment after the encounter Guardiola said: “Stefan Ortega has saved us. Otherwise Arsenal are Premier League champions.

“He has done this since he arrived. We saw the level of keeper he is. He makes incredible saves and does it so many times.”

Although Man City are yet to lift their fourth consecutive EPL trophy despite the crucial win at Spurs, they ensured they hold the advantage over Arsenal going into the final game on the season on Sunday.
