Group to Bauchi governor: Stop blackmailing NASS members

Mohammed Abubakar, Bauchi governor

A group, Buhari Youth North-East Organisation, has expressed displeasure with Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State over what it called his [governor] recent blackmail of some principal officers of the National Assembly.

The group’s Secretary General, Mr. Manasseh Istifanus, gave the advice while addressing newsmen at the Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi.

The group also lamented the hardship faced by workers in the state and faulted the governor’s inability to pay salaries of civil servants and pensioners in the state.

This is coming on the heels of a recent protest by a group known as the Vanguard for Peace and Tranquillity in Bauchi State against some principal officers of the House of Representatives, including the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, alleging that they were plotting to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

Istifanus alleged that Governor Abubakar was seeking cheap recognition from President Muhammadu Buhari by blackmailing NASS members, who are carrying out thier lawful legislative functions.

He lamented the challenges that have bedevilled most of the APC states in the North-East sub-region, particularly Bauchi and felt concerned for the plight of the people since the inception of the APC administration in the state.

He said, “We were with President Buhari in ANPP, CPC, and formed APC to actualize our dreams, but Governor Abubakar is busy destroying all the goodwill and sympathy that we have from the people, where was he when we formed APC?

” Senator Wakili was with ACN, Speaker Dogara was with the PDP. They were part of the merger; my question is where was Governor Abubakar? Today, he want to force himself on Buhari to accept him. Abubakar has forgotten the crime he committed when he was the Resident Electoral Officer in Rivers State where he announced election results before elections were concluded.

“Governor Abubakar does not know the aims and objectives of APC because he joined the party at the late hour and he is not a card-carrying member of APC when he contested governorship primaries and won.

“This explains why he is inflicting hardship on the people of the state. He has no blue print to move the state forward and development plans.

“The people of the state are facing a serious hardship, poverty and lack of social amenities, yet the governor is busy fighting with NASS members who were equally elected and have rights to execute projects in their constituency,” he said.
