A group in Dutsen Kura-Gwari, western by-pass, Minna, Niger State, has called on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to check what it termed ‘‘incessant power outage’’, which is crippling businesses and causing mass exodus of people from the area or face the wrath of youths in the area.
The group, Concerned Youths for Good Governance in Dutsen Kura-Gwari Minna, said that they would be left with no other option than vent their anger on the AEDC if the blackout being experienced in the area remained unchecked as other parts of Minna enjoy uninterrupted supply.
Spokesperson of the group, Abdul Kwanapi, said that it was unfortunate that customers were forced to pay for electricity not supplied or consumed under the estimated billing of the AEDC which he accused of exploiting customers in the area.
He accused the AEDC of installing substandard transformer and fittings which break down every time and throwing the entire community into darkness while many businesses had either closed down or relocated to other parts of Minna where there is stable supply.
“For many days now we don’t have light notwithstanding payment of N5, 000 every month as estimated bills weather we had light for just a day, a week or two you must pay”, Abdul said, regretting that the company never lived up to its load shedding schedule in the area.
Abdul called on the AEDC to step up of action to ensure quality service delivery to consumers, warning that the group will not hesitate to mobilize forces against it if the company fails to upgrade to enable customers get value for their monies.
Our correspondent could not reach the Bosso Area Manager of the AEDC, Mr. Theophilus Akpome, for comments. He was said to have gone out on official assignment and calls to his mobile phone were not responded to as at the time of this report.
