Group seeks full utilisation of Calabar, Port Harcourt ports

South South Consolidated Forum (SSCF) has demanded the full use of Calabar and Port Harcourt seaports, as well as Tinapa business resort in Calabar, to help increaseeconomic activities in the zone.

SSCF held a meeting in Uyo where it urged Abuja to establish a one-stop shop for Eleme petrochemical products in Port Harcourt.

A communiqué signed by its President General, Dick Harry, and meeting planning committee Chairman,MfawaOfegobi, urged the federal government to“reverse the anti-development policies against the region to allow the full use of the Port Harcourt and Calabar seaports.

“Grant and extend grounding rights given to Lagos, Abuja and Kano airports to Port Harcourt. Activate and gazette Tinapa as an operational free trade zone.

“Establish a one-stop shop for Eleme petrochemical products in Port Harcourt, instead of transporting them to Lagos before sale to final consumers.”

SSCF unanimously expressed the commitment of the zone to a united Nigeria, where true federalism is practised, as done in other countries.

It thanked Abuja for the Calabar-Lagos rail project but appealed for its speedy completion.
