FOU Zone C Customs seizes N351m goods

Olusemire

The Nigeria Customs Area Controller (CAC) incharge of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone C, with its headquarters in Owerri, Imo State, Comptroller Kayode Olusemire, has announced the seizure of goods with the duty paid value of N351 million within the Delta and Edo states’ axis in the last four months.

The Comptroller disclosed this in Benin, Edo State, while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command during this covid-19 lock-down from March till date, pointing out that 11 exotic vehicles, 10,000 pieces of used tyres and 200 bales of second hand clothing smuggled into the country were intercepted by his men.

Comptroller Olusemire while describing the act of this high magnitude as worrisome, he advised Nigerians to be wary in buying used tyres as about 44 per cent of road traffic crashes are caused by these expired tyres.

The CAC also displayed some bales of used hand bags and a container laden with imported rubber slippers that were confiscated by officers on patrol.

He regretted that smugglers had continued to sabotage the nation’s economy despite efforts to discourage the trade but gave an assurance that service would not relent on the fight against importation of contraband band goods. The Service had one week ago displayed bags of foreign rice and bales of used clothing seized within Imo and Abia with the duty paid value of over N90 million.
