Greater boys, Sunshine girls win trophies at Kesington Adebutu Cup

The 12th edition of Sir, Kesington Adebutu Cup U-17 Boys and Girls soccer duel ended at the weekend in Lagos.


The highlight of the grassroots Competition was the victory of Greater Boys FC of Mainland and Sunshine Girls FC which defeated their opponents to take home the trophy at Onikan stadium.


It was however not uhuru for both Sunshine Girls of Ifako Ijaiye and Super Soccer Boys of Mile 2 who lost 5-6 via penalties after a 1-1 draw while Greater Boys FC pipped Super Soccer Boys by a lone goal in the finals.


Winners and Runner up Teams were presented with cash awards ranging from One million naira to N500.000 even as most valuable players and best behaved teams were rewarded.


Sponsor of the competition Sir Kesington Adebutu who also celebrated his 87th Birthday at the occasion Presented the trophies to winners.


In his address, Sir Adebutu Congratulated winners and urged losers to strive and conquer the future with their talents, adding that with obidience, humility good manners and believe in God their future would be prosperous.


Over 36 teams boys and girls categories petticipated in the Soccer competition.
Dignitaries that throng the venue of the match include traditional rulers, members of five tennis clubs in Lagos, traditional dancers, Political bigwigs and spectators.


The South-West Grassroots soccer Association, the organisers of the competition, through the secretary Aliu Olawale Ganiyu rated the competition high as many talents have already be discovered. Ganiyu thanked the Sponsor and gave him an award for 12 years dedication to the course of grassroots soccer in Nigeria
