The Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has commissioned the Composite Electronic shooting range of the 251 Base Groups of the Nigerian Airforce Base, Bauchi State.
The governor also commissioned the Airforce Primary School and three messeres for officers of the base.
While commissioning the projects at the Nigeria Airforce Base in Bauchi yesterday, Governor Abubakar commended the sacrifices of the Nigeria Airforce at ensuring peace within and outside the country.
He said, “The Nigerian Airforce has demonstrated professionalism and discipline in the conduct of its operations.
“I have noted with great admiration the steps being taken by the current leadership of the Airforce to reposition the service into a highly professional one with human capacity building initiatives at the core of its endeavours.
“I am convinced that in keeping with this laudable aspiration that the leadership of the Nigerian Airforce taugth it wise to build an electronic range, messeres and primary school for it personnel in Bauchi State,” he said.
The governor said that the facilities will go a long way in enhancing the weapon handling skills of its personnel as well as meeting thier social and recreational needs.
In his remarks, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadik Abubakar, said that building the capacity and skills of its personnel in weapon handling has become imperative in view of the various security challenges confronting the nation as it relates to terrorism, militancy and other forms of armed criminalities.
He said that the decision to establish the electronic shooting range across the Nigerian Airforce bases in the country was to sharpen the handling skills of it personnel.
He added that the force has established an electronic range in Kaduna, Bauchi and will commission another one in Port Hacourt.
