Gov Yusuf rejects Ganduje’s call to dump NNPP for APC

By Jeffrey Agbo

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has said he would not be leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

After the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming Yusuf’s victory at the governorship poll last year, the APC has been working with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to reconcile with the Kwankwasiyya movement and get Yusuf to join the APC.

At the end of the APC stakeholders meeting in Kano on Thursday, the party’s national chairman and former governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the APC was open to receiving Yusuf and the Kwankwasiyya supporters in the NNPP.

In reaction on Friday, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that his boss, Yusuf, rejected the call in totality.

According to him, the governor like anyone else, heard Ganduje’s appeal via the platform of different social media, pointing out that the government had yet to comprehend the motive behind the call.

He said, “Well, like every other folks in Kano who saw (former) governor Ganduje’s calls via social media platforms, we believe, as a former governor, he should know the right channel of communication, if he sincerely wants to pass a message to the governor.

“And as for whether or not the governor will join APC, I can confirm to you that my boss has no intention to dump his party, the NNPP for any other party. Let me repeat, the governor has no interest in joining any party because he’s satisfied with the NNPP.”
