Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has sent the names of three nominees to the State Assembly for screening as members of Enugu State Independent Electoral Committee (ENSIEC).
Reading a letter from the governor during plenary on Thursday, the Speaker, Chief Edward Ubosi said the nominees were to complete the number of ENSIEC members to seven as contained in Sec. 3 (2) of the commission’s act.
“The members of the commission shall be the chairman and six others,’’ he said.
Ubosi listed the nominees to include, Mrs Jane Eneh from Enugu West senatorial zone, who is to replace Mr Charles Nwokike whose tenure as member of the commission would expire on July 1.
Others are Mr Chris Ogbonna, also from Enugu West, who is to replace Mr Gab Ufoh, who died on May 16, while Mr Collins Okenyi from Enugu North senatorial zone, would complete the number of the members to seven, as stipulated by law.
In his contribution, the Leader, Mr Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, (PDP-Udenu), moved the motion for the acceptance of the letter for consideration.
The Speaker directed the Clerk, Mr Christopher Chukwurah, to communicate the nominees to submit their curriculum vitae before the close of work on Monday, June 29, for their screening on July 7.
The assembly differed their screening and adjourned its sitting to July 7.
