Gombe United FC, which was sanctioned by the League Management Company (LMC) in the Nigerian elite football league, has embarked on internal cleansing and also pleaded for reduction of the N3.5 million fine.
In a statement, Tanimu Umar, the club’s assistant general manager in charge of media and publicity, disclosed that the Gombe United’s assistant team manager, Alhaji Kwairanga, had been suspended from participating in the club’s activities for one month.
The imagemaker further explained that Kwairanga was slammed for inciting fans into violence in the encounter with Enugu Rangers last week.
Also to suffer similar fate, according to him, is Isa Gambo, an official of the Supporter’ Club. “Another fan simply identified as Durwa, who assaulted Rangers’ goalkeeper, Fabiyi Emmanuel, is in detention and will be prosecuted. The fan has been banned indefinitely from the stadium,” he stated.
According to him, “at the end of the match, and following the unfortunate assault on Fabiyi Emmanuel, he was taken by the club management to hospital for treatment, but he later disappeared without trace and without notifying the club.
“Based on allegations of match fixing by Fabiyi Emmanuel, a special committee of investigators, comprising members of the management board, Police and State Security Service, is set up to investigate the allegations.”
