God’s possibilities

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God’.” –Mark 10:27.

We seem to live in a world where faith and absolute trust in God daily paves way for fear and doubt. The disciples of Jesus were as well caught in the dilemma of the above phenomenon. What shall be the obvious benefit of their service to God and perhaps to humanity? Are they really saved in Christ at the end of their apostolic endeavour? These agitations emanated from fear and doubt over the ability of God to cause the impossible things of life to be possible. However, Jesus was resolute over their agitation. According to Him, “All things are possible with God”.

Brethren, let us not forget one simple fact, that whether the issue is salvation for those who are far from God, as in this passage, or some other matter of faith, the principle is the same: “All things are possible with God”. The word of God remains faithful and God Himself is absolutely faithful.

We often limit our vision to what is superficial, personal vision, previous knowledge and to what exists within the bounds of possibility. This is contrary to God’s understanding of possibility. We set ambitious, but realistic, goals. We pray for impressive, but conceivable, miracles. We hope for the supernatural, but are rigid in resolution over our challenges.

However, we forget that “All things are possible with God”. This is what drives our faith, confirming that the entire Christian life is divinely built on “impossible realities”. This is because our Bible is full of impossible situations. David was a shepherd boy who stood before an armed and angry giant, Goliath. The faithful worshipper of God, Daniel, faced the lion’s den. Dry bones in the valley were breathed upon and they became living beings in the days of Ezekiel. Jesus, the only hope of salvation for humanity, was in a sealed tomb, yet He rose up from the dead. These are stark impossible situations in the sight of the ordinary man, which became possible.

Beloved, have you reached a dead end in life? Is it direr than anything God has dealt with in the past? Is He confounded by your hopeless situation? We can take comfort on His many promises: “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear” (Isaiah 59:1); “I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27); “Call upon me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you, and you will honour Me”(Psalm 50:15).

God does not, however, promise to grant us everything on our agenda; but He does promise to meet real needs and to support real ministry in response to real faith. His track record is impressive and perfect. He makes all things possible. No situation had ever defiled His power nor ever thwarted His purpose. He is uncompromising in His faithfulness. Never has His strength fallen short of our daily needs.

Indeed, all things are possible with God. This is the assurance we have in Him. I pray God to open the eyes of your faith to see this reality. The best way to see faith is to shut the eye of reason. Your real need lies in the realm of impossibility which is made possible through faith.
