A five year old baby girl was on Thursday allegedly abducted by an acquaintance to the parents simply identified as Ahmed and bolted away with the baby to an unknown destination.

The parents of the baby, Mr William and Margaret Koroye reside at Akemfa 1, area Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital.

Narrating her ordeal to our correspondent on Thursday, mother to the baby, Margaret said that she left the five year old with her siblings at home to attend a church service on Wednesday evening and returned to find her missing.

She said that one Ahmed who is a new convert in her Church had gone to the family residence and deceived the children that he was sent by their father to buy fuel to gain access to the house and took the baby away.

“The man who did this is Ahmed, who hails from Sokoto, he is a family friend of ours and resides in the same neighbourhood with us at Akemfa 1.

“He is a new convert who embraced Christ and being our acquaintance and church member, the children know him and believed him.

“When I came back and they told me that Ahmed took the girl, we immediately checked his house and discovered that he has left. And he had earlier asked me to give her my phone for him to use and take photographs.

“It was when it became clear that he absconded with my baby that I realized that Ahmed deceived me to take my phone away along with my baby.

“It was when my husband came back and said he did not send Ahmed on any errand that it became clear that he was up to a sinister plot,” Margaret said amidst tears.

Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police (SP), who is Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa Command confirmed the incident and said that the Police had commenced investigation and launched a manhunt for the suspect.
