Primary and secondary school education are now free and compulsory in Kano State, according to a new law signed by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Kano has one of the highest number of out-of-school children. The Free and Compulsory Education law is expected to increase the state’s school enrolment.

On November 25, Ganduje signed the bill into law at the Government House in Kano.

The central law makes it criminal for denying any child of school age education and that parents that refused to send his/her kid to school would be sanctioned accordingly.
