GAA boss inuagurates 25 AthIetes Academy with kits, School uniforms, provisions

Gombe State AthIetics Association (GAA) Chairman Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe has inuagurated an Athletics Academy comprising of 25 young students for further development.

In his remarks during the inaugural ceremony, the GAA boss said the Idea behind the establishment of the academy is to serve as preparation ground to train and expose talents discovered at the national and international athletics competitions

Hon. Gara also presented certificates to students of the newly formed academy including two pairs of sports kits, two pairs of school uniforms, two cartons of indomie noddles and half crate of eggs as well as powdered milk among other provisions.

He charged the parents to allow their Children to embrace sports and attend trainings to enable them horn their talents for scholarships and alternative income.

Meanwhile director of sports, Gombe state sports commission, Mrs Zainab Ishiaku has described the formation of the AthIetics academy as a step in the right direction for the development of sports in the state, calling on parents not to consider sporting activities of their children as a waste of time, as it might be the means of their livelyhood.

Mrs Zainab assured parents not to panic due to indecency in sports camps, as adequate measures would be in place to protect the cultural concerns of the students, parents and Games-masters.

The desk officer at the state universal basic Education board malam Abdullahi Musa Dukku commended the proprietor of the academy, Ahmed shuaibu Gara, and described the academy as massive contribution in the area of sports development in Gombe State.

Malam Abdullahi said on their own part, they are ready to support any philanthropists with interest to invest in sporting activities especially at the grassroots level.

Expectedly, the father to the Best performing female AthIete at the just ended Inter-Primary Schools AthIetics Championship in Gombe, Zainab Ahmadu Nafada, who also emerged the overall winner said, he is proud of his daughter and pledged to give her all the necessary support for her to excel in future competitions
