Fresh crisis looms in Ohanaeze Ndigbo over Elders Council

.Group says meeting is anti-Igbo sponsorship by external forces

The factional leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has cautioned Ndigbo to shun the Elders Council meeting slated to hold at Owerri, the Imo State capital, on March 27, 2021.

It described the meeting as ant-Igbo interest being sponsored by “external forces.”

The group said that the parley was a plot of few greedy people to mortgage the collective interests of the South-East ahead of 2023.

Chief Chidi Ibeh, the president general of the faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the

secretary general, stated in Enugu on Friday that the meeting was not being organized by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, stressing that it was unconstitutional.

The group stated: “It had come to our notice about the attempts by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, whose tenure had elapsed as Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders Council under the tenure of Chief Nnia Nwodo (2017-2021) is going against the Ohanaeze constitution and illegally parading himself as chairman, “.

It alleged that Governor Hope Uzodinma was joining forces with Igbo external detractors to achieve cheap political goals.

“Elders Council can never be from the same state, which makes the Owerri purported meeting illegal and unacceptable  to Ndigbo, and Elders Council meeting cannot hold their inaugural meeting outside Enugu, which makes the gathering not of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo disowned the purported meeting, and described it as “Imo State Elders Council meeting not of Ohanaeze Ndigbo”’.

The group advised prominent Igbo elders to be vigilant and guard against being misled.

Recall that Ohanaeze does not meet outside Enugu, Enugu State, as Enugu was agreed by members as their headquarters.
