Former transition committee chairmen in Abia State have no record of internally generated revenue (IGR), Governor Theodore Orji has disclosed.
Dr. Orji Kalu
He made the disclosure during the swearing in of two new commissioners and 17 transition committee chairmen at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
He said the state government has had to shoulder council responsibilities.
Orji urged the new chairmen to keep proper account of IGR, stressing that election would soon be held to fill posts.
He reiterated his commitment to the principle of rotation of electoral offices.
“I am a product of rotation. If there was no rotation I may not have become the governor today. Therefore I must continue with rotation. It is incumbent on me to do that. Failure to do that will be injustice to myself,” he said.
“We will not impose anyone on Abia people, we will provide a level playing ground.”
Orji reminded the new commissioners and council chairmen that they were not appointed to enrich themselves but to improve the living standards of the people.
Chijioke Onwutuebe, one of the Commissioners who spoke on behalf of the others, pledged their commitment to the goals of the administration.
