The immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru, is dead. He was aged 60 years.
Baru, the 18th GMD of the Corporation died on Friday night after a brief illness in an undisclosed Abuja hospital. TheNiche could not ascertain the cause death.
The death was announced by the Corporation on Saturday morning.
“Dr. Baru, a consummate Mechanical Engineer, died after a brief illness,” NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Dr. Kennie Obateru, stated in a statement.
The release said Baru’s successor, Mallam Mele Kyari, expressed shock over his sudden death.
Mallam Kyari described him as a man ‘of exemplary character and disposition.’
Dr. Baru was NNPC GMD from July 4, 2016 to July 7, 2019.
