Former Minister of Aviation and ex-Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osita Chidoka, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chidoka made the announcement during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Friday.

He stated that he is stepping away from politics to concentrate on his non-profit organisation, the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, a nonpartisan institute dedicated to reforming Nigeria’s political system.

“Earlier today, I sent a letter to my ward in Anambra State resigning officially from the PDP. I am leaving the PDP, I am leaving politics for some time, I am focusing on the Athena Centre,” Chidoka said.

“I will work in concert with other Nigerians who want us to reform the political system to bring evidence-based governance and to support it. So, effective today, I am no longer a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Obosi Ward in Anambra State and shared with Channels Television, Chidoka expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided him to serve the nation. He acknowledged that under the PDP, he rose to the positions of FRSC Corps Marshal and later, a minister.

However, Chidoka emphasised that his current priority is the Athena Centre which demands his undivided attention and necessitates a nonpartisan stance.
