Forbes announces Okonjo-Iweala Africa Person of the Year

The highly rated global business magazine, Forbes, has announced Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Africa Person of the Year 2020.

The award is conferred on Africans who have made impact on Africa and Africans.

Iweala is the second Nigerian to win the award after Akinwunmi Adesina in 2013 as Nigeria’s minister of Agriculture.

Okonjo-Iweala is seeking the director general seat of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), a contest she’s favoured to win.

Forbes had tweeted on Tuesday, December 1: “The 2020 #AfricanOftheYear Award honoree is…Congratulations to Dr. @NOlweala! Board Chair @Gavi; Board Chair @ARCapicity, gracing the cover of @forbesafrica.”

Okonjo-Iweala, 66-year-old responded in a tweet: “Thrilled to be named @forbesafrica -CNBC 2020 African of the Year following in the footsteps of my great Brothers @PaulKagame and @akin_adesina.”
