For coloured men

Men have stopped looking like they are heading for a funeral, as nowadays they are increasingly seen in bright-coloured outfits. As far as colours go, subdued tones are a thing of the past. Bright ochre, brick red and lime green are the colours to try.

An unexpected colour, or even bright white, shows creativity. It shows guts. It shows that not only do you know how to layer as well as you have an appreciation for fit, it also shows you’re not taking this whole dressing well thing too seriously.

It is difficult to always look sharp if your wardrobe is restricted to plain colours. But if you dabble with bright colours, particularly those which can be considered effeminate, people might think you are too flamboyant to be straight. While having a sense of style will help win over the ladies, you have to make sure that they don’t think you swing the other way.

*Coloured pants are quite an eccentric look; play it safe by wearing a bright top. If you have upper body muscles to show off, draw attention to them with colour.

*If you want to wear colour without looking like a rainbow flag, you can try wearing bright accessories. For casual settings, if you are wearing sneakers, you could wear coloured shoelaces. An eye-catching belt with black or dark blue jeans, or sunglasses with coloured frames, is another way of incorporating colour without being too out-there.

*At work, you could don a bright tie. Although be careful, if your boss is conservative, you could be nudged out of place for the next promotion because your taste in ties is too flamboyant.

*Blue is already a popular colour in most men’s wardrobes, but electric blue requires careful handling. If you’re looking at a solid block of colour, like a shirt or trousers, steer clear of this shade.
