The Ilorin Emirate Development Progressive Union (IEDPU) has enjoined residents of the Ilorin community to stop dumping refuse in drainages and waterways in order to prevent flood disaster in the community.

The National President of the IEDPU, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, in an interview with newsmen, said the union was disturbed by the recent flood which destroyed properties around the Ogidi-Oloje area of Ilorin.

Uthman said that the destruction would not have occurred if there had been no indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and waterways that caused flood during the rainfall.

The IEDPU President reminded the residents of the community flood disasters always caused set back and charged the people to find a better way of disposing of their refuse instead of doing so on drainage and waterways within and around their residences.

Uthman said the IEDPU sympathised with the victims of the incident who, he said, are unfortunately compelled to face the consequences of the disaster in a season as busy as Ramadan.

He also expressed the sympathy for the union with the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police, whose Divisional Headquarters at Oloje was also affected by the disaster.

The IEDPU president however appealed to the Federal and Kwara State Government as well as public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come to the aid of victims of the incident for them to move back to their properties and resume their businesses in earnest.
