Finidi had a successful 3-year spell as manager of dethroned NPFL champions, Enyimba, before taking up the national team’s job

Former Super Eagles boss, Finidi George is set for a return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), as the new head coach of Rivers United.
The Rivers State-born tactician is expected to be named as the new boss of his home state club this Thursday, according to a tweet by Trendy Faith, the media officer of Rivers Angels.
Taking to social media platform, X.com, the Rivers Angel’s spokesperson tweeted, “There is an unconfirmed report that Finidi George will be unveiled on Thursday as Rivers United coach.”
Finidi will take over the reign at the former Nigeria Premier Football League champions following Stanley Eguma’s sacking towards the end of last season.

The unveiling ceremony of the 54-year-old tactician is expected to hold at Rivers United’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.
The development means, the former Ajax winger is returning to the dugout just few weeks after quitting his position as Super Eagles head coach.
Finidi prior to getting his latest job, managed nine-time NPFL champions, Enyimba for three years before moving up to coach the Super Eagles.
He masterminded Enyimba’s title success in the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, Rivers United finished in a disappointing eighth position in the NPFL last term.
