Finidi insists friendlies against Ghana, Mali crucial, says he wants to make Nigerians proud

Finidi was saddled with the responsibility of leading Super Eagles by NFF following the exit of erstwhile head coach, Jose Peseiro

Nigeria’s interim coach, Finidi George has emphasized the need for the Super Eagles to get good results when they face West African neighbours, Ghana and Mali during the international break.

He made this known recently while speaking with the NFF TV on Super Eagles’ upcoming friendlies. 

Nigeria will be looking to build on their positive outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during the encounters.

Meanwhile, Finidi has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the team following the exit of erstwhile head coach, Jose Peseiro.

The Super Eagles will keep a date with eternal rivals, Ghana on Friday, before taking on Mali next Tuesday at the Grand de Stade, Marrakech, Morocco..

Both matches will serve as preparation for their next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.

Speaking on the matches, Finidi insisted that his team won’t take the matches lightly, but will fight to get the best result in the two friendly games

He said: “We want to make (Nigerians) them proud.

“AFCON is gone so these are two games that are very crucial for Nigeria, so we will take them seriously and get the best out of these games.”
