Almost one month after a Federal High Court, Abuja, granted them bail, the Department of State Service (DSS) on Monday released eight out of the detained 12 associates of the Yoruba nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.
They were granted bail on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 after the DSS had kept them in detention for 34 days without charge.
At the hearing preceding the court’s ruling, the DSS urged the court not to grant bail to four of the detainees, but had no objection to the bail application of the eight others.
But in his ruling, the judge, Obiora Egwuatu, overruled DSS’ objection and granted bail to all the 12 applicants, although he staked the bail for the four detainees whose bail applications were opposed on a higher bond.
While he granted bail to the four singled out by the SSS in the sum of N10 million, with two sureties each, he pegged the bail bond for the rest eight at N5 million.
But since then, none of the 12 has been released until today.
According to their lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the eight were released “this afternoon.”
He said the detainees’ legal team, which he heads, was working to get the remaining four out by Tuesday.
Those released are Abdulateef Onaolapo, Tajudeen Erinoye, Diekola Jubril, Ayobami Donald, Uthman Adelabu, Oluwafemi Kunle, Raji Kazeem and Bamidele Sunday.
