Pundit and former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has said Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola foresaw his side’s defeat of Real Madrid at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

According to the England legend, the Citizen’s gaffer told him via a text message that the Premier League champions were going to beat Real Madrid prior to their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final second-leg clash.

Man City destroyed Los Blancos 4-nil in the return leg of the UCL double header, thanks to a brace by Bernardo Silva in the 28th and 37th minutes and second-half goals from Manuel Akanji and substitute, Julián Álvarez.

Guardiola’s men needed the win to secure their second UCL final in three seasons, and they did so with class after forcing Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

They qualified on a 5-1 goal aggregate and will now face Inter Milan, who got to the final after beating local rivals, AC Milan both home and away.

Reacting to the comfortable second-leg win, Ferdinand was quoted by BT Sports to have claimed that Guardiola told him before the match that his team will beat the Spaniards just as they did two years ago.

He said: “Pep Guardiola texted me before the game saying, ‘Believe me we beat them two years ago, we’ll beat them again’,”
