Pundit and former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has revealed two clubs Premier League leaders, Manchester City must avoid at the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) if they want to win the trophy this season.

According to the Man United legend, only two clubs in Europe are capable of stopping Manchester City from winning the UCL this season.

The Citizens have dominated the Premier League and have won the English league trophy four times in the last five years, however, they are yet to lift the Champions League despite their monopoly of the league and huge investments.

Manchester City on Tuesday night thrashed Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig 7-0 to move to the quarter-finals on an 8-1 aggregate score line, with Erling Haaland scoring five goals in one game and breaking several records in the process.

The blue half of Manchester will know their next opponents on Friday with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Benfica and Inter Milan currently in the draw.

The round of sixteen games will be completed today with Real Madrid tackling Liverpool in Spain, while Napoli will welcome Frankfurt to Italy.

Discussing the prospect of Man City  lifting the continental club trophy this year, Ferdinand said Guardiola and his men must avoid Bayern Munich and Napoli in the Champions League’s quarter-final draw.

“They [City] will be thinking, ‘stay away from Bayern, stay away from Napoli. Everybody else is game”,’ the former England defender told BT Sport.

“They are that good a team. They have experience at this level now and they’ve got the players that can hurt any team on the planet.”
