.Avoid constituencies over non-performance
Senator Sani Mustapha, representing Niger-South (zone A) Senatorial District in the Senate, two House of Representatives members representing Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency and Mokwa, Edati and Lavun Federal Constituency, Mohammed Abdulkadir Mamud, and Isah Mokwa, respectively, shunned a forum organized by their constituencies to give account of their stewardship.
Electorates from Niger-South had expressed worry that most of their representatives at state and national level never had time for them hence their decision to engage them to meet with the citizens and people they are representing.
Apart from members of the National Assembly, those of the Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA) from Agaie, Bida, Edati, Gbako, Katcha, Lapai, Lavun and Mokwa also shunned the accountability forum.
Only the member representing Bida, Gbako and Katcha Federal Constituency in the Lower National Assembly, Bala Farouk, was on hand to give account of what his office has done for the people and answer questions from the people who felt disenchanted with the lawmakers.
The Citizens Engagement with the Legislators from the senatorial district of Niger State was organized by the Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bida, Niger State.
Apparently demonstrating that they have achieved nothing in almost two years in office, the representatives from the National and State Assembly from the 12 council areas that made up Zone A did not come, while the people did not hide their disappointment over their non-appearance.
Organizers of the programme also recalled how members of the Niger State House of Assembly had declined the invitation out of fears that they could be attacked and lambasted by people from their respective communities for being a failure to meet their expectations out of frustrations.
Also, the Facilitator of the programme, Mr. Samuel Isah, said the forum was to make the legislature give account of what they have done for their constituencies and constituents in the past one year.
