A federal lawmaker, Ibrahim Abuna, representing Mafa, Dikwa and Konduga Federal Constituency of Borno State, has angered Nigerians by throwing money at displaced residents who live in the war-torn North-Eastern part of the country.
The lawmaker, with a grin on his face and looking down on the people from the balcony of his duplex, throws out bundles of N200 notes to the hundreds of men, women and children who struggled to have some.
The action of the lawmaker angered many Nigerians, among whom is Professor Chidi Odinkalu, the former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
He said of the lawmaker sarcastically: “This is Hon. Ibrahim Abunna, a Federal Lawmaker in @HouseNGR, representing Mafa, Dikwa & Konduga Federal Constituency in the war-torn North-East #Nigeria. I blame the people who named him ‘Abunnan’!”
@KennyAdazie said: “This money would have been used to renovate a portion of local healthcare facilities & some schools. That road paved, small skill acquisition centres put in place to empower them! Indeed, they’ve weaponized poverty! A federal lawmaker??”
@Charles24161908 added: “They impoverished their PEOPLE for a reason. Mind you ELECTION is around the corner.
Funny ENOUGH, those ones EATING GRASS to survive will still vote him should he contest again. DON’T CRY MORE THAN THE BEREAVED!!!!”
@dareseun said: “This is a great constituency project achieved by the honourable. I wonder how much was budgeted in order to be able to spray this money because it requires quite a lot of effort to do this.”
@stmike2003 said: “To them, he has become a good man, next will be to return him. The sad situation we found ourselves.”
@talk2kay said: “The memory that comes to mind readily is that of a group of chickens during feeding. This is what he has reduced his constituents to in the 21st century and he is so happy doing it. When you continually perpetuate poverty and ignorance, this is the result.”
